Hi, I'm Michael. It's great to have you here.
I'm the creator of StepChange Living. I'm also a dad, a husband, and a professional living and working in Australia, navigating the beautiful, messy, and often overwhelming challenges of modern life that you might also be experiencing.
For years, I’ve followed the standard script. I built a good career, provided for my family, and ticked the boxes I was supposed to tick. On the surface, everything was fine. But internally, I was running on a constant, low-grade hum of overwhelm. My mental capacity felt like a pie chart, sliced into a dozen different directions – work, kids, my partner, parents, finances, health – and the slice for me was getting smaller and smaller.
I was working harder than ever but felt a sense of "motion without momentum." I was reacting to my life instead of intentionally living it.
I started StepChange Living because I knew there had to be a better way. I went searching for tools and frameworks, not to build a "perfect" life, but to build a more coherent and intentional one. This personal mission led me to formalise my approach, complementing my years of corporate experience and academic training. My background, including in corporate communications and organisational transformation, is in synthesising complex information and communicating it with clarity.
StepChange Living is the result of that journey. It's the place where I share the most practical, effective, and science-informed tools I've found for navigating the modern world with a little more clarity, connection, and calm.

The personal development world can add to the pressure. My approach is intended to be a refuge to that. It's built on a few simple, core beliefs:
Progress, Not Perfection. I reject the "all-or-nothing" mindset that leads to burnout. Sustainable growth comes from small, consistent, and often imperfect steps. This is a space that celebrates the 1% improvement.
Subtraction Over Addition. Your life is already full. My primary goal is to help you create space, not just fill it with more tasks. We'll explore how to remove what's holding you back – the limiting beliefs, the unnecessary commitments, the draining habits – to free up your energy for what truly matters.
A Commitment to Simplicity. The world is complex enough. My job here is to be your curator. I do the work of distilling complex research into simple explanations, providing clear, actionable tools instead of complicated new theories to learn.
